A fire broke out in Hounslow sending clouds of thick, black smoke to the London skyline. Witnesses said they heard three explosions after a fire broke out in a gym on a residential street at 11.45am on Tuesday. There were 70 firefighters at the scene fighting the blaze, the London Fire Department said. Firefighters located most of a commercial garage, an adjoining storage area and several cars covered in flames. A container of oil is also lit. Residents are advised to keep their windows closed and avoid the area as 70 firefighters attempt to deal with the inferno.

A viewer wrote on the internet: “It seems to be a big fire next to my gym. “Someone said they heard three explosions.” The London Fire Department said ten firefighters were called to set fire to Tachbrook Road in Southall after more than 40 firefighting calls. Station commander Graeme Hunter, who is at the scene, said: “The fire is producing heavy smoke, which is visible for miles. We call on the residents of the area to close their windows and doors. “There are some traffic jams, so we encourage people to avoid the area while the crews continue to work to make the scene safe.” The Brigade was called at 11.45 with complaints about fire. Fire crews from the Southall, Hayes, Feltham, Heathrow and surrounding fire stations are at the scene. The causes of the fire are not known at this time. No injuries were reported.
