Photo: Contributed Horizon Dr., West Kelowna Police believe speed was a factor in a fatal motorcycle crash Saturday night in West Kelowna. Emergency crews responded just after 5:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a motorcycle crash in the 2100 block of Horizon Drive. Upon arrival they discovered a motorcycle on the side of the road after crashing into a tree. West Kelowna firefighters located a 45-year-old Kelowna man, the driver of the motorcycle, at the bottom of a steep embankment. The man, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene. RCMP say speed is considered a “significant factor” in the cause of the crash. “The Okanagan is a popular place for walking and biking, RCMP remind drivers that speed limits are for everyone’s safety,” said Const. Mike Della-Paolera of the Kelowna Regional RCMP. Police want to hear from anyone who may have seen the collision or captured the incident on video. “If you saw the motorcycle prior to this accident or if you have a dash cam recording, please call police at (250)766-2880,” says Const. Della-Paolera. Witnesses told Castanet they saw the motorcycle traveling recklessly before the crash. The fatal crash was the second on Horizon Drive in as many days. On Friday afternoon, a man died after crashing his vehicle on the same road. Speed and alcohol have not been ruled out in this accident.
