Some users found a new Podcast tab added to their bottom line. Selecting their line introduces them to a new experience similar to TikTok, which plays an episode of a random podcast. Android Central contacted for more information about this feature, but did not receive an immediate response. However, a spokesman gave The Verge the usual spiel. that Spotify is regularly testing new features and that “they have no other news to share right now”, suggesting that we may or may not see it coming out. The feature seems to be a new way to discover podcasts instead of scrolling through the podcasts you have already subscribed to, although the results seem to vary. Interestingly, it also seems to include automatic captions for the episodes. Assuming Spotify pledges to make the feature more widely available, it will highlight the company’s increased investment in podcasts following the acquisition of Anchor in 2019. That said, the experience is reportedly based on Podz’s acquisition of nearly 50 million Podz dollars in 2021, which focused on discovering podcasts through machine learning.
