John Cole, who is on trial for the murder of Logan Mwangi, denied that he made the threat, but admitted that he hit the boy the day before he died and threw his body into a river bank. Testifying in Cardiff court Monday, Cole accused his co-accused, Angarad Williamson – his partner and Logan’s mother – of shaking him. He told jurors that after Logan’s death, he and Williamson put the boy, 1.04 meters (3 feet 5 inches) tall, in a 67-centimeter (2 feet 2-inch) case and took the bag out of the Welsh apartment. Cole, 40; Williamson, 30; and a 14-year-old boy, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, deny that they killed Logan, whose body was found on July 31 last year, with more than 50 injuries. Under cross-examination by Williamson’s lawyer, Peter Rouch QC, Cole said Logan was confined to his room behind a staircase because he had Covid and was ordered to move away from his mother and father when they went to to give him meals. Cole said Logan’s isolation had caused tensions. Rouch asked Cole about an alleged quarrel at home two days before Logan’s death. Cole suggested that the boy say, “You think it’s funny that we’re arguing about you, you’re not going to be happy until you break up with us.” Cole replied, “No.” The lawyer claimed that Cole, who is 1.93 meters (6 feet 4 inches) tall and weighs between 14 and 15 stones, had “climbed over” Logan and said “The only thing this boy understands is pain “, before hitting him twice in the stomach. Cole denied that he had said that, adding: “I did not hit Logan in the stomach.” Rouch claimed that Williamson had told Cole, “I will leave you,” and he had replied that he would kill the boy if he did. Cole claimed that Williamson had shaken him. Cole admitted to cutting off Logan’s head the day before his body was found. “I’m not proud of what I did, but I admit what I did,” he said. Defendant told the court that Logan was already dead when he woke up in the early hours of July 31 to the sound of Williamson screaming. Asked how Logan died, Cole said: “I do not know what happened. “I’ve heard a lot of things that are really worrying lately and I do not know how to make sense of it.” He said he did not blame his co-accused. Cole said he and Williamson put Logan’s body in a small Nike case. Rouch asked him if they had “squeezed” the body, given the size of the bag. Cole said he could not remember. He repeatedly said he left the body on the river and not in the water where it was found. He said he regretted throwing Logan’s body. “It was disgusting and I deserve everything I have for it.” The trial continues.
