Stone Cold !, Stone Cold!
There’s “Stone Cold” Steve Austin and then there’s everyone else – yet. The Texas Rattlesnake won its first race in 19 years in a makeshift “no holds barred” battle at the main event. It was a reliable, hard hit and a fun trip to the memory lane. It allowed Austin, whose previous fight was a defeat by The Rock at WrestleMania 19, to end his career from where he started in Dallas.
Austin got into one of the loudest pops you’ll ever hear after Owens kept talking about him and Texas on The KO Show. Owens then said he fooled Austin, who played the microphone and ring beats, because he brought him there for a fight.
While there was plenty of fighting, Austin got a suplex in the cement when the two brought things into the alloy. He even drove Owens to the stage in his typical stroller. They argued there with Austin, who stopped drinking bears occasionally throughout the race, confusing Owens twice on stage before lowering him to the ramp.
When they entered the ring, Owens was able to hit an Austin beer drinker with an anesthetic, but the Hall of Famer kicked him out. Austin turned Owens’s attempt to use a chair into an opportunity to hand over his own Stunner and nail KO to victory. What followed was another Stunner for Owens, a plentiful beer drink, and Austin arriving at the closing of another WrestleMania with his brother in the ring. Owens – a staunch Austin fan – hit and sold his butt for his hero and they should celebrate him for everything he did during this controversy.
Mrs. WrestleMania
WWE has had a hard time creating real babyfaces at times, but they deserve credit for constantly hitting the right notes with Bianca Belair. EST has entered WrestleMania all-time. An entire parade band played it before making a second consecutive outstanding WrestleMania match and winning another WWE show. Belair is a superstar and the WWE treats her like that, putting her to win the Women’s Raw Championship from Lynch. The two started with an early callback in their SummerSlam match, this time Belair reaches out to Lynch. They exchanged counters until Big Time Becks succeeded in Man-handle Slam but could not get the fast pin this time. He set the tone that this would not end in 26 seconds. Instead, we won a chess match with counters with moments of doubt as to whether they could win. Bianca BelairWWE EST, which topped Sasha Banks for the SmackDown belt last year, finally won by closing the top trunk to face Lynch trying to achieve another Man-Handle slam. She lifted Leeds on her shoulder and the crowd at his feet for a Death Kiss to seal the victory. What will follow for Lynch – who has not had a bad fight since returning – remains to be seen. Does it take some time? Is she staying on the Big Time Becks heel or is she slowly returning to her baby at The Man Bay or something?
Welcome home
The rumors and rumors turned out to be true, but it was surreal to see Cody Rhodes, the former executive vice president of All Elite Wrestling, return to the WWE after six years. He and Seth Rollins told a beautifully told story that had hints of war between the two companies. It ended with a moving moment where Rhodes stopped after two consecutive Cross Rhodes to give the snap punches and Bionic Elbow became famous by “The American Dream” father Dusty Rhodes before handing over the third to finally pay Rollins. Cody will be an executive producer and will appear in the upcoming A&E ‘Biography’ for his dad in collaboration with the WWE.
To begin, Rollins waited a little longer in the ring before the lights went out and Rhodes rose from the stage in a huge pop to the American Nightmare. Nothing about his presentation changed from his equipment and music, but Brady’s wife was absent as it turned out to be Rollins’s mysterious opponent. The disapproval that Rhodes received late on his way to AEW was gone as he had a huge response on babyface. He even got into an old Stardust mockery just to connect the dots with the way WWE fans last saw him in the company. Rollins, who was a WWE flag bearer, constantly welcomed Rhodes back and at one point said, “Welcome back to the big class, bitch.”
The two of them had an older, faster pace of wrestling with physicality and stiffness increasing as things go. Everyone was constantly hitting huge moves from which the other was chasing. After a series of counters, Rollins was kicked out of an original Cross Rhodes and Cody later lifted his shoulder after a sweet inverted super-plex from the top rope. He saw Rollins shoulder to shoulder with a Cody Cutter and Seth even hitting a Pedigree, but he could not eliminate Rhodes. The whole presentation was tantamount to a fantastic homecoming story for Rhodes and now we’re waiting to see what it says with a microphone in hand on Monday.
Ronda Rousey suspends submission of Charlotte Flair.WWE
Not finished yet
Ronda Rousey’s no win on her return to WrestleMania was definitely the shock of the night. While ending her SmackDown’s Charlotte Flair match with Charlotte Flair did not feel worthy of a WrestleMania, this is the first real adversity Rousey will face in the WWE and this is not a bad thing for babyfaces. When she lost to WrestleMania 35 we did not see her again until her return to Royal Rumble this year. Flair came out of a lot of ankle locks and Rousey reversed a Figure 8 with a little extra momentum in a fight that centered around the story that they wanted to match the other he submitted. “The Baddest Woman on the Planet” saw champion Flair at one point catch her foot on the rope, even when referee Charles Robinson counted to three. After that, he kicked Flair to Robinson and hit him before taking the Queens in one arm and watching her kick out without any referee seeing it. Flair responded by hitting a big boot to escape with her victory and title. It probably means we haven’t seen Flair-Rousey’s last and he may be sentenced to Hell in a Cell in June.
Complete disrespect
Mysterios vs. The Miz and Logan Paul was about respect and lack – even after the fight. Paul certainly earned the respect of professional wrestling fans and looked like a great heel, while not respecting the Mysterios in every way. The YouTube star who became a boxer did all the basics, achieved a blockbuster, a powerslam and a double suplex with Miz. He then did Eddie Guerrero’s Three Amigo and Frog Slash on Rey.
Logan Paul hits a frog during WrestleMania 38 on Saturday night. WWE
The match turned and after a double 619 to Paul, Miz tagged to save Paul and beat Ray’s Skull Crushing Finale for 1-2-3. After the fight, although Paul was laundered by the crowd, Miz turned to his partner with a Skull Crushing Finale and gave him a kiss from the ramp.
While a possible Logan Paul-Miz cons makes sense on some level, both work better as heels. Maybe it was just for a shocking moment, fans wanted to see Paul take his own from someone or Miz’s character just did not want to share the limelight with anyone. It does not make much sense on any other level.
Other races
Usos over Shinsuke Nakmura and Rick Boogs to retain SmackDown tag team championship
A legal injury to the Boogs drove this race off track and reportedly led to a change of finish. Jimmy and Jey Uso both jumped on the Boogs’ backs early in the match and he quickly crumpled to the ground holding his knee. The photos on social media showed him carrying his back. The match quickly became 2-1. The Uso eventually struck One-D at Nakamura to win it and expand their historic reign. The WWE has announced that Boogs had a torn quadriceps patella and will need surgery.
Drew McIntyre over Happy Corbin
Did you know that Happy Corbin’s fortune was running out as McIntyre became the first person to leave End of Days? Well done Michael Cole who mentioned it on the broadcast and expected it to be used in the story after the end of Happy’s winning streak by a Claymore. McIntyre ended things by cutting the two top ropes with Angela following Madcap Moss. Good solid match with the big kick-off and the good closing moment. This long feud is finally over and hopefully McIntyre will move on to something much bigger.

The scheduled match between Kofi Kingston and Xavier Wood against Simos and Ridge Holland has been cut short. Simus wrote an emoji with scissors on Twitter. This match has been postponed to Sunday.
Being in the business for an extended period of time means experiencing the highest of the highest as well as the lowest of the lowest. Yes, it hurts. but we take it and use it to push us forward. # WrestleMania
