On Thursday, shortly before 9 pm, police officers were called to Victoria General Hospital for the death of a child. VicPD officers were called to a welfare check on Johnson Street 900-square for parent and child Wednesday afternoon, and then Thursday night, paramedics responded to a call for help for the same parent and child around at 7 p.m. The child and one of his parents were transported by ambulance to the hospital. The child died, although VicPD did not say if the child died at the hospital or before they arrived. VicPD has not disclosed information about the age or sex of the child. Since police officers were present at the house the previous afternoon, the IIO is investigating whether the actions or inactions of the police may have played a role in the death. This research is in its early stages and is active and ongoing. Further information will be provided whenever possible. If you have any information about this incident and have not yet spoken to investigators, call the VicPD Reporting Office at (250) 995-7654 Extension 1. This is a story that unfolds. More will be added as details become available.
