The shooting occurred shortly before 8 a.m. Friday, March 25, on Lansdowne Avenue and Winding Way, near Monsignor Bonner & Archbishop Prendergast Catholic High School. Police say the victim, 56-year-old Jim Hunt from Havertown, was found shot in the head in his minivan. The father of four was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead. The medical examiner found that the manner of death was homicide and the cause was a gunshot wound to the head. “When police arrived at the scene, it was obvious that the man had suffered a gunshot wound to the left side of his head. There were no children in the area at that time and we have no witnesses at the time. Said Upper Darby Police Chief Timothy Bernhard. According to police, surveillance video showed Hunt’s minivan stopped at a red light just before 8 a.m., a white Audi A4 stopped next to him. Moments later, the Audi accelerated at the red light. Police released photos of the vehicle to locate the driver. The suspect, 28-year-old Lloyd Amarsingh from Darby, Pa., Surrendered to police and was questioned. He told police he was lying in the driver’s seat, had a gun in his right hand and used his left hand to remove the magazine. According to police, Amarsingh said, after removing the magazine, he pulled the gun sliding back to eject the unexploded cartridge and the gun fell. He told investigators he then went through a red light and drove away from the scene, according to police. Amarsingh told police it was his vehicle in the still images next to the victim’s minivan. Police searched the suspect’s home and found a 10mm Rock Island pistol, which Amarsingh said was the gun he fired at his car, police said. The Audi was found in the alley behind his house. Police said there was a bullet hole in the front passenger window and then the car was confiscated. Amarsingh faces third-degree murder, manslaughter and gun charges.
