The 17-year-old and 12-year-old suspects as well as a parent arrived at the PSPCA around noon on Friday, officials said. The dogs that took part in the attack were also detained by the PSPCA and are being held as part of the investigation. The teenager and the child are accused of fighting, animal cruelty and conspiracy. Officials say these charges do not fall into the list of offenses that allow minors to be charged as adults. The two suspects were detained pending a hearing to determine their deprivation of liberty. Officials say the teenager and child were walking down Granite Street in Philadelphia on Tuesday morning with two dogs when they spotted a cat named “Buddy” on the porch of a house. The two suspects then let the dogs relax and repeatedly shouted “good boy” as the dogs attacked the cat. The Pennsylvania SPCA is looking for two people who, they say, were caught on video deliberately letting two dogs relax to attack a family’s cat outside a house in Philadelphia. The cat is in critical condition after suffering serious injuries. NBC10’s Jim Rosenfield spoke with PSPCA Humanitarian Law Enforcement Director Nicole Wilson about the cat’s condition and the search for suspects. The video of the incident shows a man coming out of the house to bring Buddy to safety. Buddy suffered significant injuries to his abdomen as well as internal damage due to the attack and is currently in critical condition. Officials say his prognosis is “cautiously optimistic”, however. “While this act of cruelty was particularly shocking in nature, the outburst of support for the Buddy cat and the attempt to bring the perpetrators to justice was overwhelming,” said Julie Klim, CEO of the Pennsylvania SPCA. “While we certainly see a lot of evil as we strive to end animal cruelty, we also see how good it is, especially in a case like this, from all over the world. “We will do everything humanly and medically possible to ensure that Buddy’s future is bright.”
