On October 24, 2021, police responded to a vehicle collision on Sideline Road 18 near Brock Concession Road 9 in Brock Township shortly after 12:30 p.m.
According to the Durham Regional Police, a gray 2006 Chevrolet Sierra with seven teenagers on board was heading south on Sideline 18 when it lost control, veered off the road and rolled into a ditch.
One of the passengers, a 15-year-old teenage boy from Sunderland, died from his injuries.
The other six occupants, all between 15 and 17 years old, were thrown from the vehicle during the overturning and were seriously injured, police said.
The passengers were taken to Toronto-based injury centers and are now recovering from their injuries.
The car was driven by a 16-year-old from Sunderland, police said.
The cause of the crash is unknown.
On Friday, the driver, who is now 17 years old, was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle that caused death, along with five charges of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle that caused bodily injury.
