According to Detective Jerry Gibson with the Los Angeles Police Department, the incident happened around 2:30 a.m. Sunday in a warehouse parking lot on 62nd Street between Avalon Boulevard and Central Avenue. Gibson said an argument ensued between a party group and someone in a vehicle, believed to be a small SUV. The argument then spilled out into the street. That’s when the driver drove into the crowd, running over the victim and killing him. Police have only identified the victim as a young adult or juvenile male, but family members at the scene told ABC7 his name was Matthew Lobos. Too emotional to speak on camera, the teenager’s parents said he was a senior at Santee High School and full of life. A white Acura that was left at the scene was also somehow involved in the incident. Gibson said the driver of that car got out and got into the SUV and then fled the scene. Additional details were not immediately available. Detectives are hoping surveillance cameras in the area will lead to an arrest.
