Police were called to the riot that broke out in Showcase Leisure Park, Coatbridge around 20:25 on Friday. Emergency services were also provided at the scene and the injured 14-year-old was transported to the Royal Children’s Hospital for treatment. Her injuries have been described by medical staff as serious. A 13-year-old girl was also attacked, but did not need medical attention. Detective Shemain Murphy, Lanarkshire CID, said: “We are treating the attack on the 14-year-old girl as a serious assault and we are also investigating the attack on the 13-year-old. However, I have no doubt that others were injured during this incident and I will urge anyone with information on what happened to show up. “This incident took place in a busy area with people trying to enjoy their night. The large number of young people caused a disturbance that was particularly frightening for young children and families. “As the area is crowded, people may have taken photos or videos with their mobile phones of what happened. There may also be shots from the dashboard from the parking lot. “Anyone with information, photographs or footage of the incident is kindly requested to contact the Scottish Police at 101 citing report 3367 of 25 March 2022 or to contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
