Through the city of St. John’s. A potentially important project in an underdeveloped area of St. John’s is back on the council’s radar. The proposal, by Noseguard Holdings, would see a mix of residential and commercial development in the area of George’s Pond Road, near Team Gushue Highway. Apart from a few derelict buildings, the area is mostly forested and undeveloped. The city says moving forward with the project will open up the area for future development. The city says there are a number of maintenance studies that will need to be completed to analyze how the development should proceed, including stormwater, flood, sewer, water system, transportation, parks and open space and legal requirements. The city says these studies are important, but necessary to determine how best to serve the underdeveloped land and ensure it meets current city policies. If the city council chooses to move forward with the next steps, the proponent will have to complete a “land use” report, which will then go to a public meeting for feedback. The city council will vote on the matter tomorrow afternoon. Monday’s regular council meeting was moved to Tuesday due to today’s Stanley Cup parade.
