During the year ended January 2022, Central Coventry suffered more crime than any other neighborhood. More than 2,000 crimes have been committed in the last 12 months.
Compared to the population, that means 107 crimes for every 1,000 people who live there. Statistics also revealed a worryingly high rate of robberies, with three for every 1,000 inhabitants, more than anywhere else in the city. Shockingly, the neighborhood also had the highest rate of public order and weapons offenses, as well as related levels of theft from human offenses. Clifford Park had the next highest crime rate, with 103 offenses per 1,000 inhabitants, which is partly due to the highest vehicle crime rates in the city, eight offenses per 1,000 inhabitants. In third place came Willenhall with 100 crimes committed per 1,000 people. Willenhall was also found to have the highest rates of violence and sex crimes in Coventry. At the other end of the scale, the safest place in Coventry was Allesley Park, where there were only 26 offenses for every 1,000 inhabitants. Meanwhile, the largest increase in crime occurred in Longford. A total of 570 crimes were reported in the neighborhood in the year ended January 2022, which is a staggering 277% increase from 151 offenses last year. Across England and Wales, the most dangerous places to live are Strand, St James and Mayfair in Westminster, London, where almost two crimes were committed per resident. Nearby are Fitzrovia West and Soho, followed by Central Blackpool, Leeds City Center, City of London and Albert Dock and Queens Dock in Liverpool. Central Blackpool was found to have the highest rate of antisocial behavior in the country, while Crawley’s Langley Green and Gatwick Airport areas had the highest rate of gun offenses. And Southsea West in Portsmouth is the theft capital of England and Wales, with 90 offenses for every 1,000 inhabitants. Jeffrey DeMarco, assistant director of the charity Victim Support, said: “The high crime rates in any part of the country are a cause for concern. We see firsthand the devastating impact that crime has on victims – from making them question their sense of security to the serious damage to their mental health. “When looking at these numbers, it’s worth keeping in mind that there are many different ways to measure crime. Because many victims do not report to the police, the actual crime rates can be much higher. “It is vital to provide support to victims, regardless of where they live or whether or not they have reported the crime.
