Despite the end of March, winter weather will continue to plague southern Ontario for the foreseeable future. A prolonged period of snowstorm resulting in the lake has borne fruit and will cause travel headaches to those on the road. By Monday morning, some communities may see 10-20+ inches of snow. In addition, a blast of icy-cold air will blow temperatures to minus digits on Monday morning. More about the schedule and what you need to know, below. SUNDAY: MULTIPLE DAYS, SNOW WITH LAKES CONTINUES TO HINDER TRAVELS

The lake-effect engine is being revived in the traditional snow zone of southern Ontario. The snowfall will continue on Sunday and may last until Monday afternoon. Snowstorm warnings may be issued sometime on Sunday. Winter travel warnings apply to much of southern Ontario right now. MUST SEE: Toronto will be colder than the Arctic Circle this week The biggest impacts are expected along and near the shores of Huron, where difficult driving conditions are expected to continue at times on Sunday. 10-20 + cm of snow is expected in the areas most affected, especially near the shores of Lake Huron, where the bands could overtake. The south coast of Georgia Bay could see similar sets. The travel effects could extend to parts of the greater Toronto area (GTA) from time to time, with the odd zone meandering in the area. It seems likely that the snow due to the lake will intensify on Sunday night. “Prepare for rapidly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Surfaces such as highways, roads, sidewalks and parking lots may be difficult to navigate due to accumulated snow. Visibility will suddenly drop to almost zero” and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) in Counseling. Consider delaying travel plans in the affected areas. Conditions can change quickly over short distances. If the rainfall was not enough of a nuisance, temperatures would drop to near-record levels from Sunday night until early Monday morning.

IS THE POLISH WHIRL RETURNING FOR SPRING?

A small pod of the polar vortex will sink in the Great Lakes area by Monday. This cold Arctic air wave will push temperatures above 10 ° C below normal by the end of March and will likely exceed some record daily low temperatures. In fact, it is likely that GTA will be much colder than parts of Baffin Island, as parts of the latter have temperatures just below freezing. The cold air lobe up will be slightly modified on its trip south this weekend, but it’s to blame for temperatures being significantly lower on Monday. Monday’s low temperatures across northern Ontario will drop to -20 degrees Celsius, while areas of southern Ontario will be down to double digits for teens. With some prolonged gusty northwest winds, the chills will make the temperatures even colder, approaching -20 by early Monday morning. These temperatures will probably be a bit of a shock to the system, as it has been a few weeks since the temperatures were so low. While this sudden temperature dip will prove to be short-lived, cold temperatures will persist until early April, with no constant hot weather. Also, for next week, another system will monitor later on Wednesday, as March goes out like a lion. The storm trajectory favors rainfall and a brief warm-up in southern Ontario, but at this point it looks like icy rain will be possible in some of the same areas that saw the ice on Wednesday. If this storm takes a route as far north and west as the models show at the moment, then we will see a brief warm-up in teens in southern Ontario on Thursday.
