“People aren’t talking to us,” Placer County Sheriff’s Office public information officer Angela Musallam told the New York Post on Thursday. Musallam said many of the 200-300 people attending the party were minors and may have worried that the presentation would land them in legal trouble. The sheriff’s office has repeatedly stressed that people should come forward without fear of repercussion because investigators’ only concern is finding out what happened to Kiely. “A lot of people from the party might be in college or might be about to start college and they’re afraid they’ll ruin their future if they say something,” Musallam told the Post. Since the night Kiely disappeared, the only sure lead investigator is her last known location: the Prosser Family Campground in Truckee. “We’re just working to piece together those last moments that she was at the party to figure out where she went and who she was with,” Kiely’s mother, Lindsey Rodni-Nieman, told NBC Bay Area last week. Kiely Rodni was caught on surveillance video at a Truckee business on August 5, 2022, shortly before she attended the party she disappeared from. Placer County Sheriff’s Office/Bulletin Kiely has been missing for over two weeks. Here’s the latest on her disappearance:
Where was Kiely Rodni last seen?
According to witnesses, Kiely arrived on the evening of Friday, August 5th to a party of approximately 200-300 teenagers and young adults at the Prosser Family Campground in Truckee. Kiely lives about 12 miles away at Lost Trail Lodge, which her family runs. Friends recall the last time she was seen at the campsite between 12:30 and 1:30 a.m. on August 6. Also missing is her 2013 silver Honda CRV. Law enforcement says her phone was turned off around the time she was last seen and has not been turned back on. His last ping was somewhere near Prosser Lake.
Did he talk to anyone before he disappeared?
Kiely spoke to many people shortly before she disappeared. Her mother, Lindsey Rodni-Nieman, said Kiely texted to say she would be “straight home” in about 45 minutes. “I told her to be safe and that I love her. And she said, ‘Okay, mom, I love you too,’” Rodni-Nieman told ABC News. “She never came home.” A friend told a conflicting story, saying Kiely intended to stay at the campsite overnight with her friends and was too drunk to drive home. Kiely’s boyfriend told FOX40 they texted as usual that night, talking about their days until about 10:30 p.m. She also said he asked her to be safe at the party. Kiely Rodni, 16, has been missing since August 6, 2022, after he disappeared while attending a camping party in Truckee. Placer County Sheriff’s Office/Bulletin “I was like, OK. Be safe. Don’t do anything stupid,” he said.
What areas have been surveyed?
Local law enforcement, the FBI and volunteer search crews are conducting grid searches in the area around Prosser Lake Campground. Swim and dive teams continue to search nearby Lake Prosser, which is extremely murky. “A diving operation like this is almost like going blindly into the water and basically searching with your hands,” Nevada County Sheriff’s Capt. Sam Brown said Saturday. “Because once you start maneuvering on the ground, it’s like going through mud. These are tough operations.” A dive team from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office searches Prosser Lake for evidence related to the Aug. 13, 2022, disappearance of Tahoe teenager Kiely Rodni. Washoe County Sheriff’s Office/Bulletin Divers from the Adventures With Purpose YouTube channel, which has more than 2 million subscribers, say they are scouring the Tahoe area for any sign of Kiely. “We’re here and we’re going to cover every inch of water in the area until we find her and or we’re sure she’s not here,” diver Doug Bishop wrote on Instagram on Saturday. Last weekend, a search and rescue team found a possible “burial site” at Prosser Campground. FBI teams cordoned off the area and carefully excavated the site. it turned out to be the grave of a dead dog. The Placer County Sheriff’s Office is asking volunteers to download the CalTopo app to track areas that have been searched. Volunteers can meet at the Truckee Community Center on Mondays for more information. “The area has been walked, driven, flown, grid searched. They are on a more rigorous grid search,” Brown said. “At this point, we’re looking for anything smaller in terms of evidence as opposed to cars, people, things of that nature, even phones. We’re trying to make it even more stringent.”
Was Kiely Rodni Kidnapped?
Because law enforcement doesn’t have clues, they can’t rule out either scenario. Because her vehicle was still missing, her case was classified as a possible kidnapping.
