It has now been confirmed that despite the efforts of paramedics, one of the occupants of the car, a woman in her twenties, tragically died at the scene. An earlier statement from the North East Ambulance Service said three people were taken to hospital after the crash, with paramedics called to the scene at 3.45am. Two were taken to Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital in Cramlington and a third was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) in Newcastle. Northumbria Police confirmed that the driver of the car and two other passengers were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. An investigation has been launched to establish the circumstances of the collision and the driver, a man in his 20s, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. Officers have appealed for witnesses following the incident, particularly anyone who may have footage of the dashboard. The road between Asda Blyth and the Three Horse Shoes roundabout remains closed on Sunday afternoon as police continue to investigate the collision. Sergeant Ray Lowery, of Northumbria Police’s patrol division, said: “This is an incredibly tragic incident and our thoughts go out to the young woman’s family as they try to come to terms with today’s devastating news. “We will support them in every way and ask that the family’s privacy be respected.
