Photo: Fawn and Miranda Vehicles are moving along the Trans-Canada Highway after being stuck in traffic due to a previous avalanche and road closure. DriveBC said crews are clearing traffic jammed on Highway 1, but the road is still closed to traffic. A new update is expected at 2 am on Wednesday. UPDATE: 6:20 a.m. DriveBC advises that the Trans-Canada motorway has been cleared and reopened at 12:15 p.m. UPDATE: 9:59 p.m. Highway 1 remains closed between Golden and Revelstoke due to an avalanche earlier, according to DriveBC. The closing took place at 3 noon on Tuesday. DriveBC said the Department of Transportation would “weaken traffic within the closure limits during this period, before the road is open to regular traffic”. A photo submitted to Castanet by someone stuck in traffic near the avalanche area shows vehicles leaving through a gap the size of a strip in the snow and debris. DriveBC said an evaluation is underway and another update will be provided at 2 a.m. Wednesday.

He says that due to avalanche activity near the Albert Canyon, the highway is closed until further notice. Passengers are advised to stay at home or in the nearest town while crews work to clear the landslide and restore access to the Freeway 1. ORIGINAL 3:05 p.m. An avalanche closed the Trans-Canada motorway between Revelstoke and Golden. According to DriveBC, the evaluation is ongoing and there is no bypass available.
