Firefighters say the blaze broke out before 7pm in a house at 800 block on Carteret Street. The owner of the property says that the twin brothers were stuck on the 3rd floor and despite the efforts of the family and the firefighters, no one was able to reach them in time. Action News says the brothers had autism. “We asked how the fire started and they said it started with a candle,” said June Williams, the property’s owner. She says a neighbor called her when the fire broke out and has been in contact with the victims’ families ever since. “I’m hurt. Everything in my body hurts right now for these kids. I mean, home, you can replace the house, but you can not replace two kids,” Williams said. Four firefighters were also injured. One had a burn on his face and three others were injured in a structural collapse. All of them were transferred to the Capital Health Regional Medical Center. Firefighters say they have since been released and are recovering at home. “I was just worried about them. So I got blankets and other things to help them, to wrap them up,” said Ruth Davis, a neighbor. The mayor of Trenton says he is praying for the family that lost two sons and that the city will do everything it can to support them. Neighbors say the family is quiet, the boys were kind and cracked for the loss. “Really quiet and reserved. The guy who stays at home sometimes came and helped me with my trash when he saw me fighting with them. They don’t bother anyone,” Davis said. The Trenton Fire Department says the fire is still under investigation. Copyright © 2022 WPVI-TV. All rights reserved.
