At the Las Vegas ceremony at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, host Noah said, “We’re going to listen to some music, we’re going to dance, we’re going to sing, we’re going to keep people’s names out of our mouths.” Smith famously told Chris Rock at last week’s (March 27) Oscars “to keep my wife’s name out of your mouth” after he took to the stage and slapped the comedian for making a joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. . Earlier in the day before the premiere ceremony, where most of the Grammys were awarded, comedian Nate Bargatze also mocked the incident with the Oscars. Bagatze walked on stage wearing a large black helmet, causing the audience to laugh. “They said comedians should now wear them to awards during jokes,” he said. “It does not even cover your face, I think it just focuses on the point where you would hit me.” While Smith claimed he was defending Pinkett Smith from a joke about being diagnosed with alopecia, a source close to Rock says he “had no idea” about it. Smith, who faces disciplinary action from the Academy, announced his resignation from the awards body on Friday (April 1st). Watch live updates from the Grammy Awards here.
