West Vancouver police said the fatal crash happened shortly after 6 p.m. when the driver — a woman in her 60s — left her garage and ran off a public road in the 400-block of Keith Road and plowed into the crowd at neighboring property. Two people were killed, and those hospitalized with minor to critical injuries. One of those hospitalized was the driver and was not in police custody as of Sunday. Police said the driver was not injured during the incident. It is too early to say whether charges will be filed, police said. BC Emergency Health Services said they sent nearly a dozen ambulances and a helicopter to the chaotic scene. West Vancouver police told sources they would issue a statement about the incident and take questions from the media on Monday. “It’s a very complex situation … we had North Vancouver (RCMP) assisting us, the West Van fire department, ambulances, BC coroner’s services, victim services, etc.,” said West Vancouver police spokesperson Const. Nicole Braithwaite. “It’s an ongoing investigation.”
