The incident in Khandera, a city about 30 miles (50 kilometers) north of Tel Aviv, happened on Sunday during a visit to Israel by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, and the convening of an Israeli-Arab summit in the south of the country. There was no immediate responsibility. Surveillance footage broadcast on Israeli television shows two men opening fire with rifles on a main street in Chandera. Magen David Adom ambulance service said two people were killed by the perpetrators, who, according to police, were then shot by police. “Fortunately, our officers were able to neutralize the attackers and prevent a major terrorist attack,” National Police spokesman Eli Levy told Israel’s Kan television channel.
