The school said the “vast majority” of these employees were not faculty members. “We have an obligation under health and safety law to protect our employees and employees have an obligation to comply,” said Nick Manning, vice president of university relations. “All those who could not comply after progressive measures faced the final result of the complaint.” These progressive measures included paid and unpaid leave. Manning also told CTV News that 170 students and staff were accommodated for medical and religious reasons. The University of Waterloo announced the receipt of the vaccination order for students, staff and visitors before the start of the Fall 2021 season. Earlier this week, the school announced it would suspend the vaccination proof requirement to enter campus on May 1st.
