Judge Stacie F. Beckerman of the U.S. District Court in Oregon ordered Dawn Marie Walker, 48, returned to Canadian officials on Wednesday. Walker was the subject of an extensive investigation after she disappeared with her son. He was found and arrested in Oregon earlier this month and has since been held in the US. US prosecutors filed a document in court in Oregon, alleging that Walker “kidnapped her child”, faked her and her son’s deaths and then fled to the US as part of an “elaborate and well thought out plan”. The prosecution and defense agreed to Walker’s return to Canada after she waived formal extradition proceedings, which likely would have been lengthy. Scott Kerin, Assistant US Attorney for the District of Oregon, told the court that Walker’s return to Canada is in the best interests of both countries. Walker is to be turned over to special agents of the US Department of Homeland Security on Wednesday. Agents are set to take her to the Canadian border, where she will be released to officials and answer Saskatoon police charges, including public disorder and child abduction in violation of a custody order.
