At 1:36 p.m., the 72-year-old woman was shot in the upper left thigh on Broadway near Briar Place, police said. The crime scene is close to Wilde Bar & Restaurant, Dance on Broadway and Lakeview East Chamber of Commerce headquarters. The woman was walking on the sidewalk when she heard gunshots and felt pain. In the newsletter of his booth, Ald. Tom Tunney, 44, said the perpetrator or gunmen were passing by a car. Tunney wrote that police do not believe the woman who was shot was the intended target. The Lakeview East Chamber of Commerce said the victim was awake and alert when he was taken to hospital. Trisha Kurtz, an employee at the Johnny Sprockets bicycle shop at 3140 N. Broadway, told CBS 2’s Jackie Kostek that the victim was with two women who appeared to be in their 30s and a baby in a stroller. Kurtz said she has been trained in first aid. He said that when he reached the woman, he asked her if she was okay if she applied a bandage to the wound and a compress. He did so until an ambulance arrived. “She did not look sad. She seemed more worried that the baby was crying. She would say to her niece and everything, ‘I’m fine. “Everything is fine,” said Kurtz. Tunney wrote that he was on stage shortly after the shooting. “I was driving to Briar near Broadway, returning to my office a few minutes after the shooting, and I was at the scene shortly after the victim was placed in the ambulance. “Tunney wrote.” The police presence after the incident was quick and important. “I’m sure that with the help of witnesses and videos from nearby security cameras, the CPD will work diligently to resolve these two shootings.” The shooting scene is less than a mile from Happy Camper Wrigleyville at 3458 N. Clark St., outside of which officer Hermilo Beltran was shot and killed last Sunday night. There is no indication that the crimes are related. Lakeview East Chamber of Commerce chief executive Maureen Martino also called on Cook County attorney general, mayor and police to seek legislative change and keep past offenders behind bars.
No one has been detained in the Broadway shooting since Thursday afternoon. District Three detectives are investigating.
