First responders were dispatched to the Multnomah Falls-Larch Mountain Trail at 1:15 p.m. on Friday to care for a woman who was suffering from life-threatening conditions. After hiking more than a mile, Corbett Fire District firefighters found the woman near Wiesendanger Falls. good Samaritans performed CPR, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. According to the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, the woman was hiking with friends when she slipped and fell about 100 feet. He suffered a fatal head injury. Multnomah Falls in the Columbia River Gorge is the “most visited natural recreation area in the Pacific Northwest,” according to the US Forest Service, with over 2 million visitors each year. Due to its popularity, timed permits are required from May 24 to September 5 to access the site. The woman’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
