Knight told a news conference before the final: “I think winning would mean more after the start we had and being able to turn it around would be remarkable. It would make it even more special if we could win.
“We have the opportunity to make history as the first team in England [win back-to-back titles] and that’s so exciting.
“The stage is set to write a remarkable story, but it is a new joke and we and Australia will be equal. He is the one who plays the day and faces the pressure.
I thought we were out, to be honest, after three defeats in a row and I was pretty down, but then when I did the math I saw that if things were going a little well, we were in with a reasonable shot. We feel we have created a lot of potential now and we feel we can do a job against Australia.
Heather Knight in England’s World Cup campaign
“There is huge enthusiasm in the team”
“Participating in the World Cup finals is what you make your stable, for which you train so hard, in which you want to participate, so there is great enthusiasm in the group.
“We will not think much about 2017, it is a brand new day, a brand new game and an opportunity for us to go out and show what we can do.
“But I believe that the positive memories from winning the World Cup with 50 over many of our players will be very useful for us.

Former English cricketer Charlotte Edwards says Australia are under more pressure in the World Cup final
“England is not that far from Australia”
Knight said: “We have to bring our best cricket, but we are not that far from them in Australia and we know we can beat them. “Knowing that we pushed them so close is a very good sign. We did it somewhere in the Ashes, but we just couldn’t finish the games and in the first group game we pushed them hard.” Speaking to Sky Sports’ Nasser Hussain, Knight added: “Australia will be the favorites. “We have some scars against them, that’s for sure, but we have almost nothing to lose as they beat us very recently. We have to be careful in the air, go to them and see where we go.
I like to think that people look at me and do not know if it is going well or badly. I want to be this calm presence and I think it was especially important when things were going badly. I like to choose my moments to be a little more emotional or dynamic, so that people know that I mean it. Even if things go a little crazy, I try to stay calm if I can.
Heather Knight to her captain “I’m not one for a romantic finish, but I think it would be the perfect end of the story if we could turn it around and have a little fight in the ashes to then win Australia. “It would be a perfect story, we just have to go and execute it.”
Knight welcomes the character of England
Regarding the dramatic overthrow of England, Knight told reporters: “I do not think it was a moment, or a magical thing. I know it does not fit the story that people want to write!
“The goal was to stay calm, not to panic, to stay positive and to realize that many things that were going wrong were in our control. Small things like the court, the extra bowling alleys, the poor shooting choice.

“These were things we could change quite quickly and our bowling starts to peak at the end of the competition.
“I am just proud to be together. We also had some difficult times in Australia [during the Ashes] and the fact that we have stayed together says a lot about the character we have in this team.
“We brought our most complete performance when the biggest bets were on the line [in the semi-final against South Africa]. That was great and we would love to do it again in the final. “
