Rangers received a report Friday afternoon of several hikers being “swept off their feet” by a flash flood at Senous near the Temple of Sinauva, a media release from the park said. “The rangers and other members of the Zion Search and Rescue Team responded quickly to this event, and we are continuing our efforts,” said park ranger Jeff Bradybo.
Rangers found an injured hiker who had been swept several hundred meters downstream, the release said. This person was taken to a hospital for treatment. “Other rangers went up the Riverside Walk and found several hikers stranded by high water on high ground,” the statement said. “The Rangers asked them to stay put until the water receded and then helped them to safety.” Rangers also interviewed groups of visitors exiting the Narrows and Riverside Walk to ensure no one was missing, the release said. Officials later learned that the Agnihotri had been delayed by a trip to the Straits. The affected areas are closed to public access. Several states are under a flood watch until Sunday morning. The storms were forecast to move into the southern Plains region and into Louisiana over the weekend. CNN’s Haley Brink contributed to this report.
